Chia Seeds

Chia Seeds are a type of super food that has recently gained some popularity in main stream society.  Have you heard of them?  Well, if you would like to try some, come by and see us!  Chia seeds are one of the many super foods we use at the Free Bird in our smoothies as well as in some baked goods.  Chia seeds have been used for thousands of years in regions like Mexico, and they were part of the diet of the Aztec people.  Chia seeds have been know to increase energy and stamina.  A one ounce serving of chia seeds will provide 18% of the recommended daily intake of calcium, 27% of phosphorus, and 30% of manganese.  They are also a good source of omega 3 and omega 6 oils, essential fatty acids, they contain antioxidants, fiber and protein.  Chia seeds are also good for helping to maintain hydration.  We have more information at the Free Bird on chia seeds and all the other super foods we offer, so come by and see us and let us make you a super healthy super tasty beverage!


Winter is coming!

It's a lovely time of year in Tahoe, and one of our favorite seasons is just beginning, WINTER!  The ski resorts are starting to open, and the Free Bird is back in action this weekend after our fall break.  We are looking forward to a winter full of beautiful powder days and a lot of hot delicious drinks to keep us warm from the inside out.  We are serving several types of homemade chai these days, our traditional house chai with black tea and indian spices, our African red chai made with rooibos red tea, and our yerba mate chai!  All three are delightful and will keep you toasty warm on the coldest of winter days.  We are now serving coffee from two roasters as well, Barefoot Coffee Works from San Jose and The Hub Coffee Roasters from Reno.  Both are so good, we couldn't decide which one to carry, so we just decided on both.  We are looking forward to busy winter and we can't wait to see you all on your way to the slopes!
